Saturday night seen a fast paced, dry night of racing, with some excellent stock car racing on display throughout the night. It was a night that had it all – flying cars, big hits, drama and a number or race suspensions.
The Ninja Karts took to the track for the first time in 2024, and it was great to see 20+ drivers with us. Alfie Shevill made his debut in the class, opting to start from the front of the grid after impressing at his test, and during practice. Shevill almost had the perfect start to his career, as he led the way in much of the whites and yellows race, leading until the closing stages before Blair Innes caught him and moved into the lead of the race. Innes, in his first outing in his brand new Hardie Motorsport kart, took the victory ahead of Shevill, with Sophia Allan completing the top 3. Jaxon York was one of the quickest drivers on track in the formula, with the English driver showing good form from the blue grade. Northern Irelands Lewis Hazlett always seems to enjoy his visits to Lochgelly Raceway, and Saturday was no different as the youngster drove steadily throughout the night, taking away a few good results in the process. The first main heat of the night seen the Northern Irish youngster come through from the red grade to take victory, taking advantage of an mid race stoppage for a stricken Alfie MacLeod kart. Heat 2 would see a bit of a stop start race, with a number of race suspensions during the course of the race. Jamie Balfour found himself stuck in a dangerous spot on track resulting in the first of the cautions on lap 5. A few laps later, another caution would be brought out after a heavy impact for Rayah Burns would see the race stopped while she was recovered from the track. These yellow flags did nothing to aid the lower graded drivers results, with Blair Innes finding his early race progress hampered as a result. English driver Jaxon York would cross the line in first, but found himself penalized down into third place following a coming together with Blair Innes. Fellow English driver, Jayden Roff would inherit the race win, with Lewis Hazlett moving up into 2nd place. The meeting final would see the karts lined up in graded order, but the top point scorers from the heats starting at the front of each grade. No sooner had the race got underway, a spinning Ryan Love kart went backwards into the wall, before a number of other karts spun around in the same area, with Alfie MacLeod catching one of them, and finding himself nearly vertical as his kart pointed skywards. A stoppage, and a complete restart was called for. Jaxon York completed an excellent night with a well deserved race win, with Hazlett crossing the line in 2nd before being penalized and docked to fourth position following an incident with Jayden Lee Jeffrey. Louie Hendry would take 2nd position as a result, with Rory Wilson moving into the top 3 ahead of Hazlett.
The 2.0 Hot Rods made their 2nd outing of the year, and it was good to see a few more cars take to the track, including the visiting Chevy Mills – who we hear may also be in attendance at our next event for the formula in early April. Colin Wotherspoon finally managed to get his car ready for action, and it was an impressive first outing for the #9 pilot, as he races to an convincing race win in the opening heat. David Frame has shown great consistency in the class so far, and once more, took away a few podium places for his efforts, battling for the top spot throughout the evening. A hat-trick of runners up spots will have left him happy with his nights work, but he’ll be eager to get that first win under his belt. Scottish Champion Keith Brown would take victory in heat 2, with the meeting final seeing a coming together between Brown and Cunningham on the opening lap, drop both out of contention. Mark Dews – who is always there or thereabouts was the one to take full advantage of this, as he raced to a well deserved race win. Frame and Wotherspoon would go on to complete the top three.
The National Hot Rods were with us for the final time ahead of their DPC European Championship on the 13th and 14th April. John Sibbald took the opportunity to get some more track time ahead of the first speed weekend of the season. Gordon Alexander and Ross McWilliam were both certainly on the pace, with low 13 second lap times steadily throughout the night. Both drivers will be hoping to have fine tuned their setups as they look to make local track knowledge count in the big one in a couple of weeks time. A heat and final double for Alexander, and a heat win for McWilliams would see the top 2 share the spoils. There was an impressive performance from Darren Scott, as he took away 2 third place finishes in the heats, before bettering that in the meeting final with a 2nd place finish. Ian Donaldson and James Robertson both also showed good pace throughout the evening. A well matched field of cars certainly provided some good close competitive racing.
The U Pull It 1300 Stock cars were out in force once more, as they looked to show why they are one of the most watched formulas in the UK. The armoured hatchback cars take a lot of stopping, and as a result, the drivers need to race with skill, with precision hits along the way if they want to move up the order. Precision isn’t always what is seen though, with some drivers keen on the hard hits which is always entertaining to see – especially if the hit is moving 2, 3, or 4 cars at a time. Saturday night was one of them nights, where there was very little between much of the cars, with the pack often close, and drivers from a little further back taking opportunities to try and dispose of several cars at once ahead of them – it didn’t always work out though, as they then often found themselves at the front of the ‘train’ and therefore the one being pushed out wide by the pack behind. This trend repeatedly showed up on Saturday in each of the three races, which kept everyone’s eyes on the action on track. A big hit from Kyle Hegg on Kai McNulty seen McNulty suffer some damage, ending his night in the opening race. This followed on from a battle that has been brewing between the two over the early stage of the season. Another battle that looks to be developing in the formula is that between Mike Courts and Steven Gold – a coming together previously has seen the two lock horns on a couple of occasions on Saturday night – most notably in the meeting final where both drivers, as well as Chris Gold, found themselves rattling steel against each other. Craig Haxton took the race win in the opening heat, before Jake Wilson took yet another heat and final double which will once more see him move up the grades.
We are back in action at Lochgelly Raceway on Saturday 30th March, with a fantastic five formula event, featuring Superstox, CC Rods, Ministox, Junior Productions and ProStocks

A dry and bright Saturday afternoon turned into an extremely wet Saturday night, with the rain falling persistently from just before start time, right throughout the evening. Credit must go to the race officials and race teams for sticking it out with many soaked to bone come the end of the night.
15 races were held on Saturday without a single race stoppage – a rarity these days! The U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars were a late replacement for the Classic Hot Rods class, as they added to the on track action.
The CC Rods started the evening off in damp conditions, with the track progressively getting wetter as the race wore on. Alun Gregory continued his impressive start to the season in the formula, with another strong showing, holding off Ian Christie for a large part of the race, before Christie managed to make a move stick around the outside. Gregory did his best to stick with the 170 Ian Christie car, whilst also holding off Scottish Champion Alec Cunningham who was closing behind him. Christie took the win ahead of Gregory and Cunningham. Heat 2 seen another good performance from the 11 car of Alun Gregory – once more, leading in the early stages of the race, but with Alec Cunningham in superb form at the moment, the 207 car soon moved ahead and into the lead of the race. Cunningham seems to have found a sweetspot in his setup at the moment, and come rain or dry, he seems to be able to adapt. Gregor Whyte in the 06 car seems to fly under the radar at times, but has been steadily totting up the points with consistently good results. A 2nd place finish in the meeting final behind Alec Cunningham was another great result for Whyte, whilst race 1 winner Ian Christie completed the top 3.
The Stock Rods were out in force with over 20 cars booked to race, though a couple of late cancellations seen 20 cars take to the track on the night. 338 James Halkett made his season debut, and after showing great pace in practice, he found himself pointing the wrong way on a couple of occasions during the evening on the wet track. He wasn’t alone in finding the track conditions tough though, with numerous drivers drifting around the raceway on various occasions in each of the three races. Robbie Armit 84 started the night off perfectly, with a heat win in each of the two heats, before battling excellently with a string of competitive drivers during the meeting final. Lee McGill took the final win last time out in the class, and it was brother Dean, that took the win on Saturday night in the final, finishing just ahead of Lee on this occasion, with Scottish Champion Gary Dean completing the top three. The Stock Rod class is proving very competitive at this early stages of the season, and it will be interested to see how things materialize with a change of grades at the end of the month!
The Superstox were seen a few cancellations and no shows on the night. Dean Johnston took a hat-trick of race victories on the night, with Kenny McKenzie and Ciaran Adams having some excellent battles throughout as they races for the other positions. There was a great opportunity for a few of the less experienced drivers to get some good points on the board, with Campbell Scott and Benjamin Erskine both scoring well on the night, with Erskine beginning to get to grips with the Superstox class.
The U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars were a very late addition to the programme – only added on the Friday afternoon, yet, the drivers rallied and mustered up just shy of 20 cars on the night, which is a fantastic effort. Shaz Law has had a terrible start to life with the 1300 Stock Car, as she once more ran into issues, without completing a single racing lap. The 614 pilot will be keen to get to the bottom of the problems as she looks to get her season on track! At the other end of the spectrum, Jake Wilson, Kai McNulty and Craig Warner have all started off there 2024 campaigns in fantastic form, with Wilson taking 2 more wins on Saturday, which will see him start as a yellow grade this coming Saturday. Stuart Hall deserves some recognition for his efforts as well – a difficult debut meeting was had for him, but a 3rd place finish in the meeting final was a well deserved result after seeing his pace throughout the event. Of the more experienced drivers, only Craig Haxton would come away with a top 3 finish on the night, after racing to a 3rd place in the opening heat.
The 1600 Bangers were with us for the first time in 2024, and it was good to see a decent grid of cars take to the track, giving optimism for the season ahead. There were numerous long distance travellers from England, but none moreso than Ashley Rumary, who had a 499 mile trip to be with us! Kieran Tweed made his 2nd appearance of the year at Lochgelly, as he becomes a regular face in Scotland. There were some good hits on the night, with Dayle Linton getting stuck in when possible, whilst Michael Turner and John Paton also did there best at putting on a show. Gavin Taylor took 2 race wins, whilst Steven Adair took a race win on the night as well.
We are back in action at Lochgelly Raceway on Saturday 23rd March, with the U Pull It 1300 Stock Cars, National Hot Rods, 2.0 Hot Rods and Ninja Karts taking to the track, with a 6pm start time.

Saturday 9th March at Lochgelly Raceway once more seen some fantastic stock car action on display. The tight nature of the Lochgelly Raceway always ensures that the racing is close, exciting and proves challenging for the drivers. Lots of overtaking, swapping of positions, hard hitting action and nail biting door to door action is a regular feature of the venue.
Without any visiting drivers, grids were healthy throughout the night, with a number of new drivers in some of the formula. In the 1300 Stock Cars, we seen Stuart Hall make his debut, taking to the track for the first time in his brand new race car, whilst Gary Nicholls, Michael Stewart, Charlie Henry and Samuel Douglas all made their first outings of the season. In the Ministox, Halle Wishard made her racing debut, whilst Stuart Shevill made his first appearance in the formula after graduating from the Ninja Karts. Jack Connor also made his first appearance of the season.
The ProStocks made their first appearance of the season, and it was a fantastic start for the formula. A formula that many had written off only a couple of seasons ago, is once more flourishing, with excellent racing witnessed on Saturday night. With things looking up for the class, we hope that numbers can continue to rise and that drivers can provide the sort of entertainment they displayed on Saturday, throughout the 2024 season here at Lochgelly Raceway. There were lots of excellently turned out cars, with Jamie Doyle, Hollie Richie, Robert Conway, Jamie George, Owen Bonner, and Becki Ritchie all standing out. A special mention to John Mason who enters his 35th season of racing, with another well-presented car. John Jackson, raced to a great win in the opening heat of the night for the formula having overcame Grady Ross in the closing stages of the race. The pair hard raced close for a number of laps beforehand but with Paul Barron closing, Jackson made his move and into the lead, holding Ross on the outside for the last lap or so. Ross found himself under attack from Paul Barron on the last lap, with a hit coming in forcing 694 car wide with Barron moving into 2nd. Former multi-champion Paul Barron finished 2nd behind Jackson, with the returning Grady Ross taking 3rd place. Lochgelly track champion Gavin Ritchie raced from the rear of the grid to finish in 4th having overcame Owen Bonner on the final lap of the race. Heat 2 seen another great race, with Grady Ross making some early moves to once more, move the front of the pack. Behind Grady though, there were some great battles, with Jamie George, John Jackson and Jamie Doyle battling for 2nd place for a large proportion of the race, and it was Jackson who broke clear of the duo, with Doyle dropping out of proceedings later. Jamie George drove well to finish just behind Paul Barron, who crossed the line in 3rd. Ross would see the win removed from him though, due to an infringement, which seen John Jackson move up to take his 2nd win of the night, with all other drivers also moving up a place. By the time the meeting final had came around, the track was now wet. Up front though, it was once more Grady Ross battling for the lead of the race, overcoming Owen Bonner early on after disposing of the 999 car on turn 3 and 4. Paul Barron had quickly moved up the grid and was soon up into the top 5 places in the first half of the race. With 5 laps remaining, Grady continued to lead the way with old foe Paul Barron chasing in 2nd place. The bumpers continued to go in further back, with Graeme Fleming and John Jackson tangling on the exit of turn 4, with Fleming forced into retirement on the infield as they battled for 3rd position. Grady would take the win ahead of Barron and Mark Boyle, with a few cars coming together on the last lap of the race. McIvor racing across the line in reverse come the end of things.. Just outside the points.
The ORCi Ministox raced in the first round of their 2024 JusBounce series, with the evening starting off with a whites and yellows race. All drivers that start the season as a white or yellow grade are eligible in the whites and yellows series throughout the season. Shevill had shown great pace in practice, though ran into issues throughout the night, resulted in DNF’s across the board for the youngster. The whites and yellows race would see Ollie Sime take the victory ahead of Shaun Boyle and Kevin Graham. The first main heat of the night was another excellent race, with both David Philp and Charlie Hardie racing neck and neck with each other for the best part of the race. Neither driver was able to shake the other off when they moved ahead, with the places swapping throughout the race. The pair couldn’t get involved in a tit for tat battle too much though, as they had Rhys Kelly sitting just behind, awaiting to pounce on any opportunity. On the final lap of the race, David Philp made a move for the lead of the race, moving onto the inside of the 7 Charlie Hardie car. Both cars went onto the back straight, side by side, with Hardie trying to muscle Philp out of contention, but Philp stuck in there with Hardie going sideways into the last corner, and Philp pushing him round. Meanwhile, Rhys Kelly was closing in once more, and the three drivers cross the line just a few car lengths apart – Philp would take the win ahead of Hardie, with Kelly just behind. Heat 2 seen a few cars fail to make it onto the now greasy track, with numbers dropping a little. Kevin Graham led the way early on in the race, with Rhys Anderson and David Philp sitting just behind. A race caution would be brough out following a coming together with Anderson and Declan Dixon, with Dixon stopped on the home straight. The yellow flag caution would bunch the pack together, and within a lap, Graham had lost his lead and dropped down into 4th position. Rhys Kelly took the lead of the race, with Dean Heep sand Charlie Hardie in 2nd and 3rd places respectively. Anderson, Philp and Graham meanwhile were battling closely for 4th position. Rhys Anderson soon found himself breaking clear of the others in the battle for 4th, and soon chased down Hardie ahead of him, with the pair running closely for the remainder of the race. Kelly would take the win ahead of Heeps and Hardie. The final race of the night seen the cars race on a wet track once more, and on the opening lap, Shevill spun to the infield and into retirement. Kevin Graham took a lead of the race ahead of Jack Connor and Rhys Anderson, with Shaun Boyle in close pursuit. Graham continued the form that he had shown in the wet last week opening up a healthy advantage. The battle for 2nd was soon a three way battle, with nothing between Connor, Anderson and Boyle. The trio battling allowed Hardie, Heeps, Philp and Kelly to close in and soon make it a 7 way battle for 2nd place. Bumpers would go in and Hardie moved into 3rd place behind Anderson, and ahead of Heeps, Philp, Connor and Boyle. Hardie and Anderson battled for 2nd for the remainder of the race, with Hardie coming out on top in that battle, with Anderson holding on for third ahead of Kelly, Heeps, Philp and Boyle. There would be no catching Kevin Graham up front though, who took another win for the season.
The National Hot Rods would see both Ethan Doull and James Robertson make their 2nd outings of their National Hot Rod careers. Gordon Alexander looked to have the bit between his teeth once the laps progressed, as he opened up a gap to fellow reds graded drivers, Ross McWilliam and Ian Donaldson behind him. Doull meanwhile, led the way ahead of Robertson and Darren Scott. Darren Scott looks to have found comfort in his new car, and is putting in some good performances, as he looks to become a top 5 driver. Just after halfway in the race, McWilliam had closed the gap to Alexander ahead, whilst Alexander battled with Robertson for 2nd place. Alexander would make the move on Robertson, with McWilliam taking full advantage of this as well, as he too made the move on Robertson in the same move. Doull would take the race victory, a couple of car lengths ahead of Alexander, with McWilliam just a few more car lengths behind. Heat 2 would see the cars take to the track on a dry track for the final time, with Doull once more leading the way in the early stages. James Robertson had made a better start on this occasion though, and soon found himself battling with Doull for the lead of the race. Doull would run wide and open up the door for Robertson to take full advantage, and into the leadoff the race. Ian Donaldson was the closest driver to Robertson up front, but with Alexander now in a clear track behind, soon put the foot down and closed the gap to Donaldson ahead of him. Donaldson wasn’t able to make any inroads into Robertson’s lead ahead, and soon seen himself drop behind Alexander and into 3rd. Alexander soon caught Robertson ahead, but with the laps running down, he was unable to put any serious pressure onto the 252 car ahead, with Robertson taking the victory just ahead of Alexander, with Donaldson completing the top 3. The meeting final had seen the heavens open, and Ethan Doull looked like a man possessed, as he stormed to a fantastic victory – over half a lap ahead of Alexander in 2nd place, and lapping every other driver in the process! Alexander took 2nd, with Darren Scott 320 finishing in 3rd.
The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars were the final formula in action, with just under 25 cars taking to the track on the night. 6 white grades and 7 yellow graded drivers would mean that the blue and red graded drivers would have their work cut out to overcome many of the quick drivers up front. Stuart Hall soon found himself spinning in the opening laps and taking a bump over the kerbs. Samuel Douglas led the way, with Jake Wilson, Kai McNulty and Graham Campbell not too far behind. Charlie Henry, in the borrowed Chris Gold car, found herself pinballing around on the exit of turn 2, with cars hitting her all-ways. With the car seemingly stranded pointing the wrong way, a yellow flag was called for, which the race leader appeared to miss and continue racing, resulting in a DQ! Jake Wilson led the way from the restart, and controlled things from there on in. Behind him though, there was some fantastic action with McNulty in the thick of things. McNulty would find himself sideways on a number of occasions, but put in the bumper equally himself, spinning out National Points Champion Kyle Hegg around mid-way, with Hegg quickly rejoining. Danny Whyte, Blair Robertson and Craig Warner battled for 2nd place, with several cars just behind battling it out! Danny Whyte held on to take 2nd place behind runaway leader Wilson, with Fraser Clark managing to bring his car across the line in 3rd. Clark finished with Warner on his inside and Brant West on his back bumper with some excellent racing amongst them. Heat 2 had seen the rain start to fall with greasy track conditions. Once more though, this didn’t ‘dampen’ the racing, with some great action throughout. Wilson spun around Stuart Hall on the opening lap, with McNulty then putting the bumper into Wilson at the end of lap 1. Lap 2 would see Warner moved to the lead of the race, with Sammy Douglas, Wilson and McNulty trading blows. Graham Campell found himself as a passenger on the home straight, pushed sideways for the length of it, and into wall at the end. Warner meanwhile had opened up a healthy lead. Behind the leaders, a fantastic race ensued, with 12 cars racing hard, all on the home straight together. Sam Cavanagh found himself out wide with McNulty, Mike Courts and Fraser Clark pushing on. Sparks would fly as the cars clattered the wall on turns 3 and 4 in this fantastic battle. Bumpers would fly in, positions would be traded as the cars continued to dice for positions throughout the race. Warner would not be caught up front, with Gary Nicholls and Dany Whyte finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively come the end of the race. The meeting final once more, was another fantastic race. Stuart Hall took the lead on the opening lap, but was soon moved over as the pack came through. Kai McNulty took over the lead at the front of the pack. Jake Wilson, Craig Warner and Sammy Douglas followed through. A yellow flag for the stricken Graham Campbell car would see the pack closed up on the restart. Craig Warner, took a bit of a mid race mind blank, has he jumped the start well before green, that would result in a docking at the end. Dean Sievwright sat in 3rd place a few laps into the restart, but with Kyle Hegg, Fraser Clark, Kai McNulty and Darren Rae in close pursuit, it wouldn’t last long as the bumpers went in. Darren Rae and Kai McNulty came together, with Rae ending up spinning into turn 3. With 5 laps to go, Warner was out in front with Wilson sitting in 2nd, with Kyle Hegg in 3rd. Fraser Clark was just behind the 715 Kyle Hegg car, with a battle continuing for the minor places behind. Hegg would move the 42 car wide with just 1 lap to go, but this allowed 668 to close in, and the three cars with 42 a sandwich between, went into last corner of the race bumper to bumper. Hegg found himself pushed wide, with Clark taking full advantage, moving from 4th up to 2nd, crossing the line narrowly ahead of Hegg and Wilson. Warner would be demoted from the race win, with Fraser Clark taking the win by the narrowest of margins in the end.
We are back at Lochgelly Raceway this Saturday, with the 1600 Rookie Bangers, Classic Hot Rods, Superstox, CC Rods and Stock Rods all taking to the track, with a 5.45pm start time.

Despite a promising week on the weather front, and right up until almost start time on Saturday, it looked set to be a dry event, that was until, the heavens opened just before the first race of the night – and it didn’t ease up afterwards neither! Credit must go to the drivers and race teams though, for sticking it out, and churning out some excellent races.
Five formula took to the track on the night – the ORCi Ministox (Sponsored by WMH Developments), 2.0 Hot Rods, Junior Productions, CC Rods and Superstox.
The Junior Productions were in fine form, with a few newcomers to the class making respectable debuts. Jayden Barrie made the step up from Micro F2s, whilst Liam Conway made his racing debut. It was great to witness the continued development of many of these drivers, with great strides being made by a number of drivers over the winter months. Brooke McMullan and Nicole Innes both had their best meetings to date in the formula, and would have taken a massive confidence boost away with them. Lewis Dickson was quite possibly the driver of the meeting though, driving excellently to a heat and final double that will see him move upto the red grade for the next event. North of Scotland based Connie Anderson had a strong performance throughout the evening as well, finishing in the top 4 in all three races for her efforts. Jack Baird has developed through the HRP ranks over the years, starting out in Ninja Karts before moving into the Junior Production class a couple of years ago, and he continues to put in some top class performances. Saturday was another evening where the youngster displayed excellent race craft, as he stormed to a race win in heat 2, with car issues preventing further progress on the night. Lewis Duffy and Connor St Aubyn both started off their seasons in reasonable fashion, with both drivers scoring well on the night, as they look to mount a points challenge throughout the 2024 season. Despite the conditions, the drivers all drove excellently, with very little incidents, and giving each other room to race in the process.
The 2.0 Hot Rods were down on numbers as to what we had hoped to see for the season opener, with a few drivers missing out due to health and work commitments. However, there were some great racing on display from the drivers in attendance. There was next to nothing between Frankie Cunningham and Keith Brown all night, with both drivers sharing the spoils after some great racing between them. David Frame made his debut in the class at Lochgelly, and didn’t look out of place. The former Superstox driver found the greasy conditions challenging, particularly when under pressure, but on the whole, he would have been satisfied with his all round performance. Keiron Johnson made his debut in the class following the switch over from Classic Hot Rods. Cunningham took the victory in the opening heat, with Brown taking victory in the 2nd heat as well as the meeting final.
The Superstox class welcomed a number of English visitors – most notably British Champion Chris Bradbury – who no doubt will have been keen to get some track time ahead of the A1 Containers R Us British Championship here at Lochgelly at the beginning of June. Adam Longridge and Bradley Brooker both also made the trip north, though it was a disappointing night for Brooker, who had to call it a night after the opening heat following some brake issues. Aaron Riddell made his return to action and seemed to find the wet conditions a challenge throughout the night as he struggled for grip. The Adams duo of Ciaran and Mirran both turned out re-worked cars, and both cars looked fantastic on track. Scottish Champion Ciaran, showed great pace and will certainly be one of the front runners throughout the season. However, there would be no stopping European Champion Dean Johnston on the night though, as he swept to a commanding hat-trick of race victories, with British Champion Bradbury, finishing in 2nd in all three races as well.
The CC Rods kicked off their season, and there were some nice cars on display. Alun Gregory and Natalie Mason were arguably the pick of the bunch, with both cars looking fantastic. Alun Gregory started off his CC Rod campaign in the best possible manner, romping to victory in heat 1, although he was chased down by Gourlay in the closing stages of the race. That would be the highlight of the night though for Alun Gregory, as he ran into car issues later in the meeting. An unfortunate incident in heat 2, seen a shaft break on the Graham Pow car on the home straight, with his car pulling to the left and making contact with the John Gorman car on the inside – with both cars veering towards the infield and into the back of the retired Rhys Easton car. There was considerable damage for Easton and Gorman, with Pow also retiring from the race due to the issue with his car. Scottish Champion Alec Cunningham found his pace in heat 2, and stormed to an excellent victory, before crossing the line first in the meeting final as well, though would be demoted from that position, with Gourlay inhering the race victory as a result.
The ORCi Ministox seen a tyre up for grabs in the meeting final, courtesy of WMH Developments. The Ministox have been a brilliant formula over the years, and 2024 looks set to be another exciting year for the class. Every year, we speculate as to who will be the drivers to beat, and who we think the upcoming drivers are going to be. The class of 2024 looks to be fairly evenly matched so far, with little between many of the drivers. British Champion, Charlie Hardie had his work cut out throughout the night as he attempted to come from the back of the grid, with some very fast cars ahead of him. Charlie was able to muster up a 4th place finish in the meeting final, as well as a race win in heat 2 following a caution with a handful of laps remaining. David Philp, the 2023 Hardie Motorsport Novice of the Year, kicked off his season in a new car, and it was quick from the outset. Starting from the blue grade, Philp looks like he will be a tough one to overcome as the season progresses. Top 3 finishes in all three races would have seen David leave being pleased with his results. A stand out performance on the night though, came from Kevin Graham. Graham struggled with reliability during the 2023 season, but looked like a driver re-energised on Saturday night. Taking the win in the opening heat of the night, he followed that up with a win in the meeting final, taking away a tyre for his efforts. Graham was unfortunate not to make it a hat-trick though, having found his lead in heat 2 taken away after a caution closed the pack up. Shay Page, Dean Heeps, Rhys Kelly and Rhys Anderson all look like they have the potential to be front runners this year too!!
The ORCi Ministox are back with us at Lochgelly Raceway this Saturday where the stars of the formula will certainly have to work hard to make their way to the front of the grid. Alongside the Ministox this week, we have the U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars, National Hot Rods and ProStocks.

It was great to be back at Lochgelly Raceway, as the 2024 season got underway as the Van Bangers took to the track to entertain the masses with some hard hitting, van destroying race action as they raced in their Shaun Walsh Memorial event. It wasn’t just the vans though, as a further three formula took to the track as well, all providing some brilliant entertainment, and great racing – The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars, Stock Rods and National Hot Rods all joined the Vans in a four formula event.
The U-Pull-It 1300 Stock Cars started off the evening, with 20+ cars taking to the track in the opening heat of the night – a great number so early in the season! There were a number of new or returning drivers taking to the track – Kenneth Scollon 118, Bryce Kempson 424, Jake Wilson 42, Shaz Law 614, Kai McNulty 610, Craig Warner 357 and William Wallace 14. The septept of drivers had mixed evenings, with Kempson and Law having some issues, Kenny Scollon finding his feet with the car, whilst Wallace progressed throughout the evening with a strong debut performance. Wilson, Warner and McNulty were in the mix of the action throughout the night, with each of the three drivers showing the sort of pace that will see them move up the grades fairly quickly. Wilson led the majority of the opening heat of the night, before being reeled in by Craig Haxton in the closing laps. The closing laps seen a fantastic battle as the top 5 drivers raced for the race win. Wilson, Haxton, Danny Whyte, Fraser Clark and Craig Warner were all in contention, with the bumpers being exchanged corner after corner in the closing laps, with the cars at times, coming out of the corner 3 wide. It was anyone’s race at one stage with the hits getting harder as the laps worn on. It was Craig Haxton though, that came out on top, as he crossed the line just ahead of Whyte and Clark, with Wilson dropping back down to fifth having been on the receiving end of a few hits! Heat 2 was equally as exciting, although it was further back the grid where the battles were happening as the star graders struggled to overcome much of the blue graded drivers, with some great battles throughout the race. Up front though, Jake Wilson took the opportunity and opened up a gap to the chasing pack behind and wouldn’t be caught on this occasion. Callum Sturrock was his closest challenger, finishing a few car lengths behind in 2nd place, with Danny Whyte crossing the line in third. The meeting final seen the track temperatures drop, with moisture on the track, resulting in increasingly difficult racing conditions for the drivers as the lap times dropped away. Craig Warner found himself leading the way around the half way stages of the race, but with National Points Champion Kyle Hegg closing in, it was going to be a battle to retain that position. Hegg soon found himself with Warner and soon moved to the front – albeit, with a little resistance as Warner managed to move back in front briefly, before finally losing out to the 715 car. Warner stuck with Hegg though, and finished just a couple of car lengths behind to take a well deserved 2nd place finish. Scottish Champion Fraser Clark completed the top three in the meeting final. Three races, three different winners!
The Stock Rods seen just under 20 cars take to the track in the opening heat of the season – with Craig Tosh being one of several drivers to join the HRP ranks this season. Both Craig Tosh and Fraser Anderson were making their first outings on the Hoosier tyre – the control tyre that was brought into force for the formula during the 2023 season. The Hoosier tyre is taking a number of drivers some time to get used to it, with cold and damp conditions proving to be a challenge. This was evident on Saturday as we seen a number of ‘loose’ cars throughout the night, with a few big drifts as a result! David Crichton had a difficult 2023 season to his standards, and has made a few changes over the winter months with the hope of returning to some good form, and he couldn’t have asked for a better start to the season, taking victory in the opening heat, before narrowly missing out in heat 2 as well. Paul Hughes debuted his new car, and would have left delighted with out it went. A strong performance throughout the night, seen him get his first points of the season on the board in the opening heat with a 6th place finish. John Lee Green inherited 2nd place in the opening heat, with both Armit and Lee McGill docked a couple of places for perceived infringements during the race. Jack MacLeod started the 2024 season off in a similar fashion to how he started 2023, with a win at the opening meeting, as he took victory in the 2nd heat of the night. Jack found himself almost half a lap ahead at one point, before a difficult back marker made life difficult in the closing laps, with MacLeod just hanging on ahead of Crichton in the end. Lee McGill, Sean Naismith and Robbie Armit all look a force to be reckoned with this season, and they’ll all be looking to push for silverware as the season progresses, taking the fight to the seasoned drivers already established within the formula. Lee McGill took a comfortable victory in the meeting final, finishing ahead of Naismith and Dean McGill. Another three races, another three race winners!
The National Hot Rods kicked off their campaign with a few welcome visiting drivers – John Sibbald joined British Champion, Adam Maxwell and European Champion Robert McDonald as visiting entries for the season opener. The trio, will be looking to get some valuable track time ahead of the David Philp Commercials European Championship, here at Lochgelly in April. Darren Scott debuted his new car, though had a few issues throughout the night which he will be hoping to rectify in the coming weeks. Northern Ireland’s Adam Maxwell took the victory in the opening heat of the night, overcoming the Scottish challengers, and finishing ahead of Robert McDonald and Ian Donaldson. Heat 2 seen the Scottish drivers take command of the evening, with Ian Donaldson taking victory ahead of a hard charging Gordon Alexander and Ross McWilliam. The meeting final seen Gordon Alexander find his way to the front early stages, with Donaldson missing from the starting grid after an incident during the installation laps. Adam Maxwell soon closed in on Alexander, and the two battled for the lead in the latter stages of the race – with the gap opening and closing with varying laps. Alexander took the win ahead of Maxwell, with Robert McDonald finishing in third.
The Van Bangers completed the line up, with around 12 vans putting on a great display of action throughout the night. Local driver Lee Clarke turned up in an old campervan which was hanging onto the chassis by the rust! During the opening race, the Walsh Memorial, this didn’t last long and quickly became dislodged through some assistance from Grant Barker. Englishman, Kieran Tweed made the trip north to join us, and didn’t have too much luck on the night, in his first van banger appearance, though, did manage to take away a 2nd place in the final race of the night, and tied in the DD – so the night improved as it progressed for him. Barry Jarman was in excellent form on the night, raising money for CashForKids in the process. Jarman took the victory in the Shaun Walsh Memorial – ahead of Chris Thomson and Paul Barron. Jarman went onto take the win in heat 2 as well, whilst Barker took the win in the other heat. Paul Barron and Zak Murdoch put on an entertaining show throughout the evening, with the pair trading blows on a number of occasions. Richard Cairns tied in the DD with the aforementioned Kieran Tweed as the night was brought to a close.
Please note, there were issues with the MyLaps timing software throughout the night evening, so lap times may not be available for all drivers on speed hive.
